I have pleaded with the Heavenly Emperor for the people of the entire prefecture. There is sweet spring water about one zhang away from the lake. Drinking this spring water can cure diseases." The people in the prefecture knelt down in rows to express their gratitude for the divine blessing. However, the soil in this area was severely salinized, and everyone doubted that there could be clear spring water. But because it was the order of the deity, they started digging. Even after digging very deep, no spring water was seen. Everyone said this was a gift from the deity, so they made more efforts and dug a few more times. Suddenly, clear spring water gushed out. People rushed to fetch and drink it. The spring water was as cool and sweet as fine wine. People coming to draw water were in an endless stream on the road, and they even fought over it. Those who drank the spring water in the morning recovered from their diseases in the evening. People cheered and kowtowed in gratitude, saying, "This clear spring water can save lives. It's just like the sweet dew from heaven, truly having the power to bring the dying back to life!" So, they built the well with bricks and stones and named it "Holy Spring". The messenger of the prefecture reported this to the imperial court, and the emperor issued an edict to confer the title of "Lady Chongfu" upon Mazu.</p>
