In the year of Guimao, the 10th year of the Chunxi reign of Emperor Xiaozong of the Song Dynasty (1183 AD), Qiang Teli, the Chief Inspector of Fujian, was ordered by the imperial court to suppress the bandits in Wenzhou and Taizhou prefectures. After the official ships were assembled, the bandits' ships were densely spread on the water surface, and all the officers and soldiers were very afraid. When the two sides were at a stalemate, everyone prayed together, "Among the gods in the sea and sky, only Lady Mazu, the goddess, has remarkable divine power. We earnestly request your mercy and protection." At this time, they vaguely saw Mazu standing in the clouds. The canopy of the carriage she was riding in was resplendent, and the flags were fluttering in the wind, looking as dazzling as lightning and rainbow. The bandits were greatly horrified.

Before long, the official army advanced rapidly along the water flow with the help of the wind. The bandits' ships were on the right side. The official army quickly rowed the oars to attack the bandits' ships, successfully captured the bandit leader and his accomplices, and the remaining bandit fleets scattered and fled. The official army achieved a complete victory and returned triumphantly with the sound of victory songs.

Qiang Teli clearly listed the contributions of Mazu's invisible assistance and reported it to the imperial court. The imperial court, following the imperial order, conferred additional titles on Mazu as "Lady Lingci, Zhaoying, Chongshan, Fuli".
