There are many supernatural beings and monsters in the East China Sea, and fishing boats often sink. Mazu said, "This must be the work of monsters causing trouble." So she ordered the fishing boat to row to the middle of the current. The wind was gentle and the sun was shining brightly. Soon, various aquatic creatures were seen gathering. Their scales were like brocade and their armors were colorful. They were jumping and blowing bubbles in the water. At the front of the distant waves, there was a figure who looked like an official with a princely appearance, bowing respectfully and shouting in front. The water tide was surging, and the people on the boat were trembling with fear. Mazu said, "Don't worry." She sent a message to excuse them from the welcome. Suddenly, the water became clear and the sea was calm. Only then did they know that the Dragon King had come to pay homage. Since then, whenever it was Mazu's birthday, the aquatic creatures would gather in front of Meizhou Island to celebrate. On this day, fishermen dared not cast their nets or drop their fishing lines.
